UHR corrects a factual error in the study material: the UN was founded in 1945
Eight days before the first citizenship test, the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) has corrected a factual error in its own study material. On 5 August 2026 the study material page was updated, and the Sverige i fokus PDF is now labelled Korrigerad version 2026-08-05.
The error was a year on page 39: the founding of the United Nations. UHR states plainly what changed:
“Ett felaktigt årtal har korrigerats på sida 39. FN grundades 1945 inte 1946.”
(A wrong year has been corrected on page 39. The UN was founded in 1945, not 1946.)
Bli Svensk is independent study material. For official information about the test, always go to uhr.se/medborgarskapsprovet. For citizenship applications, see migrationsverket.se.
Two years that are easy to confuse
This is probably how the error crept in, and it is worth learning properly because both years belong to the same chapter:
- The UN was founded in 1945. After the end of the Second World War, by 51 countries.
- Sweden joined the UN in 1946. The year after it was founded.
If a question asks when the UN was founded, the answer is 1945. If it asks since when Sweden has been a member, the answer is 1946. They are two different facts, and now that the error has been publicly flagged, it is not far-fetched that this exact distinction shows up on a test.
The chapter 12 audio has not been re-recorded
This is the more important part, and it is easy to miss. UHR corrected the PDF but did not re-record the audio. Instead they placed a warning next to the file:
“Observera! Det finns ett fel i ljudfilen på sida 39. FN grundades 1945 inte 1946.”
(Please note, there is an error in the audio file on page 39. The UN was founded in 1945, not 1946.)
So if you listen to chapter 12 you will still hear 1946 given as the founding year. If you have been studying with the audio files, and many people do when revising on the bus or during a walk, it is worth checking that you have not committed the wrong year to memory.
What to do now
If you downloaded the PDF before 5 August, download it again from UHR’s study material page. Open the file and look for the label Korrigerad version 2026-08-05. If it is missing, you have the old version.
If you have been studying with the audio, note the discrepancy in chapter 12 and trust the PDF where they disagree.
If you use third-party material, open the app or book and check what it says about the founding of the UN. Anything built from the old PDF may have inherited the error, and not everyone will fix it before 15 August.
Bli Svensk has always used 1945 as the founding year and 1946 as the year Sweden joined, so nothing needed changing there.
What this says about the test
It is easy to find a correction this close to the date unsettling, but it is actually a good sign: UHR reads its own material critically and corrects openly when something is wrong, rather than quietly swapping the file. They state what changed and on which page.
It also says something about how to study. A single year rarely decides a test, and UHR’s own sample questions lean clearly towards understanding a context rather than recalling a figure. But once a factual error has been publicly discussed, that particular detail becomes harder to forget, both for the person sitting the test and for the people writing the questions.
The test is held on 15 August 2026. Eight days to go.
